Community Updates: June 2010

Beechview:

  • The spraypark at Vannucci Field opened. The Spray Park will be open every day from 9am-9pm, weather permitting.
  • The Friends of the Library flower and book sale was a successful event
  • A sunflower garden was planted with help from G-Tech at Coast and Fallowfield Avenues
  • The Farmers Market opened on June 10th and will be every Thursday, 3:30-7:30 p.m. at St. Catherine’s
  • The Beechview Merchants Association will have public speakers at their July and September meetings:
    • July 28th: A representative from SCORE will speak
    • September 29th: John Burke of the URA’s Business Development Department will speak

Upcoming Events:

  • Wednesday June 16th, 6:30-8:30 p.m.: The Friends of the Beechview Library’s Appraisal Fair at the Beechview Library
  • June 24th-26th, 7-11:00 p.m.: St. Pamphilus Church Festival, 1000 Tropical Avenue
  • June 28th-July 1st, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.:  Beechview United Presbyterian Church Free Day Camp. Call 412-377-6679 for more information
  • Saturday May 29th, 10am: Memorial Service at the Memorial Monument at Broadway and Shiras
  • Tuesday  August 3rd, 6:30 p.m. : National Night Out hosted by Beechview Area Concerned Citizens at the parking lot at Hampshire and Broadway Avenues
  • Saturday September 25th: Beechview flea market on Broadway Avenue

Carrick and Overbrook:

The Community Cornfest in Carrick’s Phillips’ Park will be on August 21, 2010 from Noon to 8 PM. The festival will be held both inside and outside, weather permitting, at the Phillips Park facilities. Musical entertainment will include dance, folk, indie, jazz and soft rock. Food will be sold by local faith based and school groups. Children’s entertainment will be also included. The Community Cornfest includes the neighborhoods of Carrick, Overbrook and Bon Air. The Carrick Library will also sponsor an Appraisal Fair from noon to 2 pm to benefit the Carrick Library.
